I received an email from a young lady asking for ways to style her hair Naturally curly hair. She isn't a huge fan of the braids, and the twist-outs are too of the norm. I understand where she's coming from. It's like, what can I do that isn't of the two! Well, above are some styles that will be great if you're in this category. Sometimes you just want to do something different, but don't have an idea where to start. It's also great during this time of year to tuck those ends away. Simply because the ends are the oldest part of our hair. You're thinking..."Huh Shren, What are you talking about the oldest part!" Well, just think, the ends of your hair use to be the first hair popping out of your scalp. Therefore, the same as we care for the elderly...we must care for the ends of our beautiful curls. Keep your hair moisturized, an tucked away as much as possible! Two strand twists are great, and braids are great if not too tight, but if you don't like neither of these too much, here are just a few style ideas.

REMEMBER: ...and I must stress this....when we step out into the presence of the sun...we must must must protect our hair with a great moisturizer. I prefer all natural, but what ever floats your boat and is working great for you. We must keep our hair moisturized. Just think, the same as we protect our skin from the sun by using sun block so our skin won't become burnt. We must do the same for our hair.

A Hair Story: @CurlyChronicles

Ms. CurlyChronicles is one of the best Natural Hair Vlogger's I've seen
& I am honored to feature her for this week's "A Hair Story". She was so kind to let me interview her on her lovely Hair Journey.

You will be inspired.

Please leave a comment and subscribe!

If you'll like to ask her a question about her journey,

Feel free to reach her through her Youtube Channel, or Twitter.

Natural Expression: How long have you been natural?
CurlyChronicles: I've been natural since 2003, my 8 year anniversary was in March!

Natural Expression: What made you decide to go natural? Why?
CurlyChronicles: My hair was thin, and fried, and colored, and broken off. So I decided to try leaving it alone and ditching the heat and the rest is history..perhaps herstory :)

Natural Expression: How did you go natural? BC..transition..locs
CurlyChronicles: I had thin, dyed hair but it wasn't permed, it just mimicked permed hair so I cut off most of it and opted for little fro before putting in two strand twist extensions.

Natural Expression: What is your Hair Type?
CurlyChronicles: I would 4a with fine strands but it's very dense/thick!

Natural Expression: What are your thoughts about natural hair?
CurlyChronicles: I've always admired natural hair but it wasn't something I saw often when I was younger. I'm completely in love with it now and I still adore straight hair styles because while natural hair is beautiful so is everyone else's.

Natural Expression: Did going natural change you in any way?
CurlyChronicles: I definitely think my confidence increased. I was always worried about my hair when it was straight and constantly wondering when I could get back to the house to revive it or back to my dorm room before I went down to eat dinner with friends. I don't think much about it anymore except for maybe a big affair but I think anyone regardless of texture deals with that..just a part of wanting to look your best.

Natural Expression: What would you tell someone who's considering natural hair? And why they should?
CurlyChronicles: I would say consider it if you're looking for something refreshing and new and that it can be really fun or really devastating but perhaps most importantly, you decide whether it's really fun or devastating. Don't consider it if you're hoping for someone else's head of hair...that's a sure way to end up mad at yourself (and your hair - especially if it doesn't grow out the way you imagined!)

Natural Expression: What products are you currently using?
CurlyChronicles: These are the common ones..
Conditioners/Leave Ins

Giovanni Direct Leave In Conditioner
BioInfusion Detangling Conditioner
Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave in Conditioner

NjoiCreationS Apple Cider Vinegar Bar
Kinky Curly Come Clean

Coconut oil
Shea Butter

Giovanni's Wicked Wax
I posted a video featuring them
here if you want a visual guide :)

Natural Expression: What's your hair regimen now & your favorite hair style?
CurlyChronicles: I usually wash and condition nowadays but only because I use a bit more product than before so the buildup builds up quickly!
I think my favorite style is probably one that incorporates 30s styled of the more recent tutorials I've posted. It's a classic kinda 'do and it's not all over the stays where it's supposed to!

Natural Expression: What are some of the challenges you've had with your natural hair? Have you ever regretted going natural?
CurlyChronicles: I've never regretted's always been a great decision, even if I don't remind myself of it often, the people I interact with surely will tell me so. The only challenge I have is with preventing knots. They're just always...there. I don't really worry about them too much though, they don't hinder my styling methods/outcomes really so I guess que sera, sera!

Natural Expression: What have you learned about your hair? What mistakes have you made? CurlyChronicles: I've learned to go with the flow more. I always resisted my hair in the past but I work with it now and we have a lovely relationship. I've caused breakage from too much brushing or tension from pony tails, I've blown it out a bit too often and noticed stringy pieces..probably things that others have encountered as well. So I'm mindful and try to make sure I'm not doing more damage than good.

Natural Expression: Where can you be found (e.g., blog, twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.)?
CurlyChronicles: Oh, shameless self promoting! I'm all over the place it seems!
I've got a fun new blog about vintage inspired natural hair styling located at
I'm also on twitter,
@curlychronicles & Facebook (CurlyChronicles).

Natural Expression: Would you like to add anything, feel free!

CurlyChronicles: Enjoy your hair and have fun with it!

Thanks again for letting me help tell the world your hair story, it's very inspirational. Continue to help spread the word, and I wish you the best in everything you do...Much love to ya lady! :-)
